Trinity
College requested a sound reinforcement and conference system for
its Burke, Hamilton, Swift, MacNeill, Joly, Emmet and Davis Lecture
Theatres as well as for the Gold Hall and Exam Hall. It was essential
that the system provided an even distribution of sound to get the
lecturer’s voice across the oddly shaped rooms, irrespective of
whether the theatres were full or half empty. It was also important
that the sound was reproduced to a high quality despite its source,
which could be a fixed microphone, a radio microphone or a playback
audio source.
The system’s speakers were customised to direct the sound smoothly across the theatres while tailored software control and the output level to the listening area. This ensures that to the listeners the sound appears to be coming from a central point, chiefly the speaker. The result is a very natural reproduction of voice. The Bosch Intellivox system was used for this system, which is particularly suited to acoustically hostile environments such as atriums or hallways, football stadiums, churches, cathedrals and train stations.
