SKS
was the first company in Europe to supply a system, which was programmed
to accommodate 22 languages on 32 channels. When Ireland held the
EU Presidency the delegation included more than 360 delegate positions.
No system existed to manage this number of delegates or languages,
so it was necessary for SKS to custom build a congress and simultaneous
interpretation system. As the delegation travelled all over the
country, it was also necessary for the system to be fully transportable
to facilitate its continuous movement to various towns.
Due to the importance of the EU Presidency meetings, each system had a duplicate back up system. For greater flexibility the system was software controlled and capable of accommodating up to 50 interpreters in their own sound proofed booth. The interpreted dialogue was distributed to the delegates on 32 channels via infra red wireless receivers. To ensure confidentiality the system was encrypted.
