To
improve the efficiency of the Dail voting process, the Irish government
requested an electronic voting system. SKS customised a system based
on the Bosch Digital Congress Network system which provides voting
from each of the TD’s seating position. The system’s software was
specially written to match specific requirements of the Irish government’s
procedure. To eliminate any possible confusion, the vote results
are displayed on a large synoptic panel measuring 3 metres x 2 metres
on the front wall of the Dail chamber.
The voting sequence is also displayed on video monitors throughout the government building The system is completely automatic and provides a print out of the voting process. Two years later, at the request of the government, the system was duplicated and installed into the Seanad. Its reliability and success led to its subsequent installation in the Dublin city council chamber and many other council chambers throughout Ireland.
