Over the last three decades, our focus on both the supply of quality product and the design of innovative, integrated audio and CCTV systems has put us at the forefront of the industrial audiovisual market in Ireland today. Not content to follow, we have carved out a niche as a driving force behind the development of audiovisual technology for a wide variety of applications including town centre video surveillance, simultaneous interpretation conference and voice evacuation systems.

 

Defining SKS is not easy but we regard this as our strength. Our understanding both of our market and the technology is such that it is not enough for us to merely supply product when we have the in-house capability to advise on a system’s functionality. We began business in 1983 as a distributor of audiovisual equipment to a nationwide network of dealers. Always customer-driven, we responded to a market need to provide advanced audio systems to educational institutions, in the process developing expert knowledge in the fields of public address and sound re inforcement.

 

In the 90s, safety and security became the buzzwords for the audiovisual industry. Up until this point, in large buildings such as factories and shopping centres, sirens had been used as part of the in-house fire evacuation strategy. However, when it became apparent that sirens were not effective, they were replaced by voice. Thanks to our experience in the field of public address, we were qualified to oversee the introduction and development of these systems in Ireland, winning us key projects such as Blanchardstown and Ashleaf Shopping Centres.

 

At the same time, the introduction of the miniature camera brought significant changes to the security market in the 90s. As SKS enjoyed an exclusive relationship with Philips, the market leader in the development of this product, we were uniquely positioned to spearhead the application of the CCTV system in Ireland. However, this relationship alone did not account for SKS’s success in this field. Recognising the need for specialist equipment to link cameras over long distances and transmit signals back to a central viewing point, SKS pioneered the use of fibre optic cables to make larger systems covering huge areas feasible. Our advanced technical expertise won us the contract for the video surveillance system in Dublin city centre in 1995, and subsequently led onto contracts for similar systems in town centres throughout Ireland.
